Love your Neighbour

Love your neighbour

This is one of the commandments Jesus gave us. He says to love God first and then our neighbours as ourselves. The last post discussed how we should love ourselves because without doing so, we will have no love to extend to our neighbours.

What does it mean to love your neighbour as yourself? This means that what you do for yourself, you should be able to do for your neighbour (needy, helpless, relative, friend, etc.). Matthew 25: 40 -45.

Jesus gives a parable in vs 40, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’. When we do things for people, it’s important to recognize that our reward is from God and not from any mortal man. It’s better to help those who you know will not be able to pay you back than those you suspect can.

Unfortunately, people only believe in helping those who are well to do. They say things like, “who knows, I might need his help in future”.

Receiving your reward from God is much better and rewarding than anything any mortal man may give you. Not only is man’s reward limited, man can disappoint any day, any time.

Giving to your neighbour

The beauty of loving one’s neighbour as one’s self is the numerous benefits attached to it. This includes; favour, protection, provision, breakthrough, etc. While doing this, one should not forget what the word of God says in Matthew 7: 6. We have seen things happen. When people give possessions and the receiver uses it for money ritual or sees it as one being spiteful, such a situation can result in strive.

With respect to giving, it’s important to let the Spirit of God lead you and also ask for approval when you feel the need to do something for someone. When you do this, you’ll escape all traps set by the devil and then receive your reward in full.
